About me

Hello! Well I’m Emily. I’m 23, I love to cook and most importantly I love to eat!

My cooking adventures started in the first year of university where our kitchen was equipped with a hob, a sink and what every university kitchen needs; a microwave oven. Faced with the challenge of trying to cook good home cooked food with a microwave from the 1980s, I set about teaching myself to cook. In that first year the microwave and I moved from the basics of jacket potatoes to the more slightly more adventurous such as mince pies or the much debated Toad in the Hole, and some people said it could never be done! Hah! Luckily, in my second year of university my flat had a fully functioning kitchen with a fully functioning oven. Armed with the internet, Nigella Express and a hand-me-down hand mixer my world was fully opened up to the world of cooking.

Now 4 years later, and I’ve recently graduated from Exeter University with an MSc in Psychology. Whilst on the endless job hunt I’ve started this website to share some of my cooking, recipes and other lovely things I’ve come across in the foodie world.

I cook for family and friends including my two toughest food critics my mother aka "Muth" and my primary guinea pig, my fiancé Dave.

Why “Licence to eat”? There are a couple of reasons behind this name. Firstly, over the last year I have managed to lose just under 3 stone through following the Weight Watchers Pro Points plan. For me, following this plan really changes your outlook on food and most importantly on eating. Understanding this I feel has given me a licence to eat. The name was an idea sparked to me on a lazy Sunday afternoon watching a classic bond movie. From that I formed the image of a woman holding an electric hand whisk in the iconic Bond silhouette pose, and from this, Licence to Eat was born.
